GIS NAVIGATOR HELPS AMS PLANNING FINDING SUITABLE SITES IN MANCHESTER COUNTY
AMS Planning faced the challenge of identifying 50 suitable sites in Manchester County that must meet specific constraints for affordable housing. Recognizing the critical role of GIS data in site selection. They turned to GIS applications, as the most reliable means to fulfill the project’s requirements and achieve the desired results. AMS planning had to take on the role of Information Manager for the project. They approached GIS navigator for desirable solutions.
Challenges
GIS Navigators has to find sites that fulfill the constraints given by the client.
- Constraints for site selection include land-based designations, historic statutory and non-statutory features, flood risks, Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAAs), Agricultural Land Classification, Public Footpaths, National Cycle Routes, Nutrient Neutrality Zones, TPO Trees, Coal Mining, Minerals, Location of bus stops, Pylons and overhead Lines, Planning history, Land ownership boundaries, and House price conservation area and listed buildings.
- Data is not freely available; we had to create or collect data from multiple resources.
SOLUTION
- GIS data management and processing techniques are utilized to shape the data.
- Data for all constraints were collected / created from different resources.
- Overlaying all the shapefile we found out suitable sites for housing.
- GIS Navigator offers flexibility in development and implementation, aiding AMS Planning in swiftly acquiring suitable sites within a short timeframe.
